Articles submitted to the Journal should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for publication anywhere at the same time. Articles may not be submitted if it is under consideration by another publication, or has been, or will be published elsewhere. We are especially interested in innovative papers that contribute to important issues in SME development.
All submissions should be made online at the Journal' Author Manuscripts site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre. Authors should prepare and upload in Word version. Two files should be uploaded, the first one should contain the manuscript only, and the second file should contain details such as the authors’ institutional affiliation, full address and other contact information. Any acknowledgements should also be included here. This file should be named "Title page (not for review)".
Typescript should be submitted in duplicate on A4 size paper, typewritten in one side, in double space, with margin of at least 2.54 cm (one inch).
The original manuscript should be submitted electronically (through e-mail: ijsmed@smef.org.bd or via web: www.smef.org.bd/ijsmed) or in pen drive and virus free CD in single column format, with a word count of 5000-7000 (excluding figures). An article exceeds 7000 words or occupying more than 20 pages of the journal may be returned for abridgement. All articles must be written in English. If English is not the authors’ first language, it should be carefully proof read by an expert before submission.
The text of the article should include the following:
1. Title
2. Abstract
3. Text
4. Findings
5. Recommendations / suggestions
6. Closing remarks / conclusion
7. References and notes
8. Tables, figure captions and figures
9. Keywords
If the article is based on a conference paper which may have been published elsewhere, it is important that the author observe the following:
If the original conference paper has been published elsewhere, or the copyright has been assigned to the conference organizers or another party, authors should ensure that they have cleared any necessary permission(s) with the copyright owner(s) of the original. Articles will not be accepted for publication in the journal unless such permissions have been obtained.
The submitted article must have been substantially revised, expanded and rewritten so that it is significantly different from the conference paper or presentation on which it is based. The article must be sufficiently different to make it a new, original work. This is unlikely to be the case if less than 50% of the article is clearly new. This is a matter of judgment and will be based on a comparison of the submitted article with the original conference paper.
The original conference paper should be supplied by the author with the expanded article for the purpose of comparison.
All such articles will be subject to the same review process as any other submitted article.
The article must contain the following statement fully acknowledging the original conference paper: 'This article is a revised and expanded version of a paper entitled [title] presented at [name, location and date of conference].'
The author should follow the following guidelines:
Title: As short as possible, with no abbreviations or acronyms.
Abstract: Approximately 100 words, maximum 150 words.
Keywords: Approximately 10-15 words or phrases. Keywords are important for online searching.
Address: Position, department, name of institution, full postal address and email address for each author.
Biographical notes: Approximately 100 words per author, maximum 150.
International Context
It should not be assumed that the reader is familiar with specific national institutions or corporations. Authors are encouraged to approach their chosen topic with an international perspective.
Countries and groupings of countries should be referred to by their full title (for example, 'Europe' and 'America' are ambiguous).
Special attention should be paid to identifying units of currency by nationality.
Acronyms should be translated in full into English.
Translated Works
Difficulty often arises in translating acronyms, so it is best to spell out an acronym in English (for example, TIN - Taxpayer's Identification Number). Similarly, labels and suffixes need careful attention where the letters refer to words which have been translated. The names of mathematical functions may change in translation - check against an English or American mathematical reference text.
Additional Files for Email Submissions
For email submissions, the author will need to submit a file containing: the title of the article; the names, affiliations and complete addresses, emails and fax numbers of the author; an abstract; keywords; brief biographical notes about author and any acknowledgements
Copyright
It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license of the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to SMEF. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors are required to secure permission if they want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as "derivative reproduction" (where the author has created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source).

The emphasis is on original work by the authors. The submission should incorporate the reviewers comments provided and will be reviewed as per the review sections and comments provided. Insights and contribution (both theoretical and practice oriented) being generated would be given prior weight. It is to be noted that invitation to select papers does not guarantee a journal publication. Authors are required to ensure their submission as per the guidelines provided. Submissions not following the guidelines will be rejected and will not be reviewed and no extension for resubmission will be provided.
The final submission should be written in English only.
The final submission should be 7000 words (including abstract, keywords, tables, figures and other illustrations, references are not counted in the word count). The submission should be in double spacing format. We follow a single column format. Papers which cross the word limit will be rejected and will not be reviewed.
All margins should be 2.54 cm (1inch) wide. Text should be fully justified. Do not type anything outside the print area. The page number should be at the middle of the page footer. No other content should be present in either the header / footer of the submission.
We follow the Times New Roman, 14pt boldface for title, 12pt boldface for section subtitles and 12 point non-boldface for main text. All the sections and sub sections should have a numbered heading. For example, the main section would be 1, sub section would be 1.1 and the sub section further would be 1.1, 1.1.1. Please limit to three (3) levels of sub sections.
The title should be concise and self-reflective of the contents. The title alone should be given on the first page of the submission. The title should begin at 2.54 cm from the top edge of the page, centered, and in 14-point, boldface type. Capitalize the first letter of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs; do not capitalize articles, conjunctions, or prepositions (unless the title begins with such a word). Leave a blank line after the title.
The names of authors and their affiliation should not appear anywhere in the final submission. The authors needs to submit a separate file containing the title of the paper, plus the names, affiliation and complete addresses, e-mail and fax number of authors, brief biographical notes about authors and any acknowledgements, all in Times New Roman, 12- point, non-boldface type. The author for correspondence should be marked.
Type your main text as double spaced in 12-point, justified. Paragraphs are not to be indented. Please leave a blank line when a new section starts, but do not place any additional blank lines between paragraphs (the double spacing followed will suffice).
Figures, photographs and tables should be included into the text and fit in the text area.
Captions to tables should be given at the top of each table. Captions to figures and photographs should be given at the end of each figure and photograph. Font size should be 10 for captions. Line drawings should be in a form suitable for reproduction without modification. The illustration should be sharp and visible, especially when highlighting an aspect. In cases of using any other copyrighted image or content as a reference for the paper, it is the duty of the author to get due approval for use where applicable.
The author must list and number all bibliographical references in 12-point font, use double space and place them at the end of the paper using the Harvard style. All references must be cited in the text (Name, year of publication). The writer should also include the name(s) of editors of referenced books where necessary. Websites accessed have to be cited with their access date.

All manuscripts are reviewed by an editor and members of the editorial board or qualified outside reviewers. Decisions are given within 4 weeks and the reviewers’ comments are sent to authors. The Editorial Board decides acceptance or rejection of a paper.
The Editors reserve the right to edit or otherwise alter all contributions, but authors receive proofs for approval before publication. Electronic proofs are sent (e-mail attachment) to the corresponding author as a PDF file. With the exception of typographical or minor clerical errors, no changes are made in the manuscript at the proof stage. Authors have free electronic access to the full text (in PDF) of the article. Three complementary hard copies are provided on payment of Tk 100.00 or US $ 5.00 each.
Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published before (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, or thesis); that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatic transfer of the copyright to the publisher.
